What is Mineral Title?
Mineral title is the right to explore, develop and produce minerals found on a property. It encompasses all of the legal documents that establish who has the right to explore, develop, and produce minerals on a given property. In the oil and gas industry, mineral title is used to determine who the mineral owners are so that they can be contacted for oil and gas leases.
Most of the time Mineral Title is used to create a Mineral Ownership Report which shows all of the mineral owners for a tract or tracts of land. This information is very important for both oil and gas companies and for mineral or royalty owners. Knowing who owns the mineral rights under your property can also be a benefit to surface owners so that they can establish good communication with the mineral owners in the event that an energy company wishes to explore for oil and gas or other minerals under the property.
